Course Overview

This course is designed to equip healthcare professionals working in primary care settings, with the skills necessary to effectively take a history in minor illness presentations. The course aligns with the four pillars of advanced nursing practice: Clinical Practice, Leadership, Education, and Research.


Aims

  • To develop the ability to take comprehensive and focused patient histories in minor illness scenarios and enhance clinical decision-making skills.

  2. Use clinical reasoning to interpret patient information.

Course Content 


The session will focus on:

  • Using a consultation model to guide the process of taking a patient history, including the patient profile, chief complaint, history of present illness, past medical history, family medical history, social history and review of systems
  • Demonstrating a systematic approach when taking a history.
  • Clinical reasoning for patients with common complaints, including complex patients typical to primary care settings.
  • Communicating with professional colleagues and the multi-disciplinary team, including presenting a case verbally and in written documentation.


Who Should Attend

This short course is aimed at practicing Registered Nurses and Registered Allied Health Care Professionals who are in roles requiring, or that will require advanced skills in history taking and physical assessment of patients.
